CIS experts to discuss cooperation for information security

A draft Information Security Concept of the Commonwealth of Independent States and a draft Package Plan designed to accomplish the Information Security Concept will be discussed by CIS experts. The session will take place at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on September 27-28.

The press service of the CIS HQ told BelTA, the document had been developed to execute the corresponding resolution passed by the CIS Heads of Government Council on November 25, 1998.

Agreed with interested CIS bodies in 2005-2007, the two documents were revised several times and corrected by four sessions of expert panels. The last one took place in October 2005. However, some time after that Russia said it was premature to submit the Concept and the Package Plan for consideration of the CIS Heads of Government Council and the documents needed adjusting.

This May the draft documents corrected by the Russian side were tabled at a session of the CIS Council for Coordinating Information Technologies under the Regional Community for Communication and were generally approved. In July the Russian Foreign Ministry asked the CIS Executive Committee to agree the Russia-adjusted documents with plenipotentiaries and experts of the CIS member-states in order to present the documents to the CIS Heads of Government Council.

The press service remarked, the adoption of the two documents will enable consistent cooperation between the CIS states for the joint protection of their interests and for information security. Practical actions meant to implement the documents by 2010 will be financed by corresponding executors on their own. In future interstate programmes may be prepared for the sake of joint efforts aimed at ensuring information security.
